Wendy Makin Announces 2025 Collections

Wendy Makin is set to showcase her two new 2025 collections at Bridal Week Harrogate in September. With special features and design innovations such as one-shoulder designs with oversized puff sleeves and bows, and the use of 3D lace and embellished waistlines, Wendy ensures that her gowns are both fashion-forward and unique as we head in to another year of bridal trends.

We speak to Australian based designer Wendy Makin ahead of the UK launch to find out her inspirations behind the two new collections (Wendy Makin and French Collection) and find out her top trend predictions for the upcoming season.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE 2025 WENDY MAKIN COLLECTIONS

What is the inspiration behind your upcoming bridal collections?

For our Wendy Makin collection, we returned to our signature florals that gained popularity in the mid-2010s. This, combined with our hallmark simple, stylish, and elegant look, served as the primary inspiration for this range. Revisiting our signature florals inspired us to reimagine the designs that initially made them popular while maintaining our recognised wearability.

For the French Collection, we drew inspiration from the 90s, incorporating elements like empire lines and puffed sleeve heads into the designs. We blended these 90s influences with our tried and true vintage theme to create a soft, floaty collection that is both easy to wear and timelessly stylish.

What sets the new Wendy Makin collections apart from previous ones?

The re-introduction of florals, while a nostalgic nod to our past, is what now sets this collection apart from previous ones in our Wendy Makin range. This year, we've introduced pronounced V-neck styling, along with a return to ruching, one-shoulder designs and large bows bringing a fresh and modern twist to our signature looks.

In the French Collection, we've incorporated more 3D floral lace, teamed with separate off-the-shoulder toppers, de-lustred satins, puff sleeves, and empire lines. These unique elements and innovations create a collection that is both contemporary and timeless, offering brides a diverse range of options.

What are the latest fabrics and details, you have used in your new collections?

For the Wendy Makin Collection, we have really stuck with tried and true materials like our beautiful Mikados. Additionally, we have introduced georgette and a couple of organzas into this collection, offering more variety and texture. We've also incorporated details such as one-shoulder looks with oversized puff sleeves and bows, an innovation requested by our brides that has definitely resonated. The inclusion of these elements adds a contemporary edge to our classic designs.

In the French Collection, standout features include 3D laces, de-lustred satin, and embellished waistlines. These choices were driven by feedback from brides in our studio. The 3D lace adds depth and visual interest, while the de-lustred satin provides a subtle, sophisticated look. Embellished waistlines enhance the overall silhouette, offering a perfect balance of structure and flow.

How do you ensure your new designs meet the diverse needs of brides today, considering factors like comfort, style, and individuality?

Being a retailer as well as a manufacturer and wholesaler allows us to stay in constant contact with brides and react quickly to their changing needs and wants. This close relationship enables us to design each gown to be very wearable and accessible to all brides.

Comfort is a top priority, which is why we select high-quality fabrics that not only look beautiful but also feel luxurious and comfortable to wear. We ensure our designs cater to various styles while maintaining our unique signature and individuality, from the simple classic elegance of our Wendy Makin Collection to the modern romanticism of the French Collection.

Innovations such as one-shoulder designs with oversized puff sleeves and bows, and the use of 3D lace and embellished waistlines, ensure that our gowns are both fashion-forward and unique. We focus on individuality by allowing brides to personalise their gowns through different fabric choices, embellishments, and design details.

Using sustainable manufacturing processes and creating gowns that endure also make our collections extremely desirable for today’s bride. This approach ensures that each bride feels special and that her dress reflects her style while maintaining comfort and wearability.
